On April 1, “TaDas art gallery” opened an exhibition of patchwork paintings by Loreta Skripkutė-Gutauskienė titled “Krikštai”.

Patchwork textile paintings represent a technically exceptional and unique phenomenon in the visual arts, developing apart from prevailing trends. In this solo exhibition, the artist composes profound interplays of forms and ideas from multicolored fabric appliqués, primarily reminiscent of the anthropomorphic and biomorphic figures found on Lithuanian gravestones—resembling a ghost or the stretched hide of a sacrificed animal. The word “krikštas”, which in Lithuanian signifies both beginning and end, encourages us to reflect on the drama of life and the meaning of existence,” – notes art historian Dr. Vytautas Tumėnas.

The exhibition will run until May 4.
